An articulated ivory okimono of a lobster, naturalistically carved with all joints fully movable, the eyes stained for effect. With tomobako.

An almost identical piece is illustrated: Shoto Musem of Art in Tokyo, Nihon no ZogeChokoku -The History of Japanese Ivory Carving, 1996, p. 119.

The artist was recorded to have been commissioned by the dealer Sakurai Sosai of Tokyo, who exhibited fine ivory works at the national and international exhibitions during the Meiji Period.
