Cloisonné enamel reached its highest quality in the Meiji period. Many of the fine works received awards in both domestic and major international exhibitions. Namikawa Yasuyuki of Kyoto and Namikawa Sosuke of Tokyo were appointed as Imperial Court Artists and their unbelievable works were purchased by a number of Western collectors.
