Netsuke, miniature sculptures, and pipe cases were used to secure sagemono such as inro, tobacco pouches and tonkotsu on the obi (sash) in the Edo period when Japanese people wore kimono. They gradually became more decorative objects with various subjects, materials and forms. The small but artistic and humorous character has been attracting a number of collectors both in Japan and abroad.
