Lacquer incense box with insects and spiderweb

Jōkasai

A circular lacquer kōbako (incense box), the exterior worked in takamaki-e and hiramaki-e with the details in mother-of-pearl depicting various insects including butterflies, dragonflies, praying mantis, crickets, and beetle on an okihirame ground, the inside of the cover depicting a spider on the web with a dragonfly, a butterfly and maple leaves, the interior with further butterflies on a nashiji ground.
